SOAL REMIDI SEMESTER GENAP KELAS X 2011-2012

Once upon a time, a hawk fell in love with hen. The hawk flew down from the sky and asked hen, “Won’t you marry me?”
The hen loved the brave, strong hawk and wished to marry him. But she said, “I cannot fly as high as you can. If you give me a time, I may learn to fly as high as you. Then we can fly together.”
The hawk agreed. Before he went away, he gave hen a ring. “This is to show that you have promised to marry me,” said the hawk.
So it happened that the hen had already promised to marry a rooster. So, when the rooster saw the ring, he became very angry. “Throw that ring away at once! Didn’t you tell me the hawk that you’d already promised to marry me?” shouted the rooster. The hen was so frightened at the rooster’s anger that she threw away the ring immediately.
When the hawk came the next day, the hen told him the truth. The hawk was so furious that he cursed the hen. “Why didn’t you tell me the earlier? Now, you’ll always be scratching the earth, and I’ll always be flying above you to catch your children,” said the hawk.
The curse seems to have come true.

One morning, one of the Witch’s friends came over to visit. When she looked around the room, she said, “Your house is ugly. My house is more beautiful than yours, and the walls are brighter.” The Witch was very angry when she heard this and she shouted, Get out of my house! And don’t ever come back here.”
After her friend left, the Witch looked around her house and she said to herself, “My friend was right. My house looks ugly and the paint is faded. I have to repaint it.” Then she went to the shop and bought a can of paint.
After lunch, she started to paint, and she worked very carefully. In the afternoon she finished the lower part of the house. When she wanted to start painting the upper part, she found out that she couldn’t reach it. Then she got an idea. “I will use my magic broom!” she shouted, “Broom, oh my broom, turn into a paint brush and paint my walls!”
Suddenly the broom turned into a paint brush and it started to paint the upper walls. It worked very fast, and in ten minutes the job was done.
The Witch was very happy.

Borobudur is Hindu-Buddhist temple built in the 9th century under the Sailendra Dynasty of Java. It is located near Magelang on the island of Java, Indonesia.
Abandoned in the 11th century and partially excavated by the archeologists in the early 20th century, Borobudur temple is well-known all over the world. Influenced by the Gupta architecture of India, the temple is constructed on a hill 46 m (150 ft) high and consists of eight step-like stone terraces, one on top of the other. The first five terraces are square and surrounded by walls adorned with Buddhist sculptures in bas-relief the upper three are circular, each with a circle of bell-shaped stupa (a Buddhist shrine). The entire edifice is crowned by a large stupa at the center of the top circle. The way to the summit extends through some 4.8 km of passages and stairways. The design of Borobudur, a temple-mountain symbolizing the structure of the universe, influenced the temples built in Angkor, Cambodia.

The victims were evacuated to three nearby hospitals, said Surono, an employee at the Baturaden resort in Central Java province, adding that they fell more than 20 meters (yards) after one of the steel cables holding the small bridge snapped. Local police chief Emron Putra Agung said five people were killed and 29 injured. The accident occurred as the country enjoys a weeklong holiday marking the end of the Islamic month Ramadan, when people traditionally flock to holiday sites. Baturaden, located 300 kilometers (190 miles) east of the capital Jakarta, is one of the most popular resorts on the slopes of Mount Slamet (3,428 meters, 11,246 feet), Java's second-highest peak.

Witnesses claimed they had seen water from retaining ponds being channeled directly into the river.
The two pipes were connected to the river from one of the ponds near Pejarakan Jabon village. Three pumps have also been installed to distribute water from the pond to the river.
A TV journalist, Medi, said the pipes were set up in Thursday by soldiers from the Kepanjen battalion in Malang. Of the two pipes, only one was operating Friday, he said.

The Ministry of Information and Communications issued Decree No. 11/2005 last month obliging all broadcast stations to go off the air from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m., in a bid to save energy amid soaring oil prices that have greatly inflated the government fuel subsidy.
The decree has drawn strong criticism from a number of different parties, with critics calling the decree government intervention in the public’s freedom and right to information.
The new decree, No. 12/ 2005, stipulates that local TV stations will be allowed to stay on the air 24 hours a day in the event of emergency situation, such as natural disasters.
In addition, the new decree also allows local TV stations to air live broadcasts from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. if the stations signed a contract with a third party before the decree was issued.

AUSTRALIAN JOB ADS FALL
SYDNEY:  The number of Australian job advertisements in newspapers and on the internet fell 2.4 percent in June from May but were still up 24.1 percent year-on-year, figures showed on Monday in another sign the economy continues to slow.
The number of jobs advertised in metropolitan newspapers alone dropped 1.9 percent in June to their lowest level since May 2003 and were down 6.1 percent from a year earlier.
Internet ads also declined in June, falling 2.5 percent from May but were still up 30.6 percent year-on-year.
The recent slowing in growth in job advertisements was consistent with cooling domestic economic activity, particularly in housing and retail spending, said ANZ senior economist Tony Pearson. “It suggests the exceptionally strong performance of the labour market over the past half year or so is coming to an end,” Pearson said.

Loro Jonggrang
Once upon a time, there was a kingdom named Prambanan. The people lived peacefully. However, their happy lives was disturbed by Pengging Kingdom. The king, Bandung Bandawasa, wanted to occupy Prambanan. He was a mean King.
The war between Prambanan and Pengging could not be avoided. Prambanan lost the war and led by the new king, Bandung Bandawasa.

The king of Prambanan had a beautiful daughter. Her name was Loro Jonggrang.  Bandung Bandawasa fell in love and wanted to marry her. "if you want to marry me, you have to build a thousand of temples in just one night," said Loro Jonggrang. She hated Bandung Bandawasa because he made the people of Prambanan suffered.
"What? Impossible! You just gave me an excuse for not marrying me!" said Bandung Bandawasa. But he didn't give up. He asked the genies to help him.
Then all those genies worked hard to build the 1000 temples. Meanwhile, Loro Jonggrang heard from the lady-in-waiting that the building of 1000 temples was almost finished. She was so scared; she did not want to marry Bandung Bandawasa. And then she had a great idea. She asked all the ladies-in-waiting to help her.
"Please prepare a lot of straw and mortar. Come on! Hurry up!" said Loro Jonggrang. All those ladies-in-waiting were confused. They did not know why Loro Jonggrang asked them prepare a lot of straw and mortars in the middle of the night.
"Listen, all those genies are building the temples, right? We have to stop them by burning the straw and make some noise by pounding the mortars. The genies will think that sun is going to rise and they will run away. Genies are afraid of sunlight."
It worked! All those genies thought that sun rose. They did not know the light was from the fire that burning the straw. And the noises from pounding the mortars like the start of a new day.
Bandung Bandawasa was angry. He knew Loro Jonggrang just tricked him. "You cannot fool me, Loro Jonggrang. I already have 999 temples. I just need one more temple. Now, I will make you the one-thousandth temple."
With his supernatural power, Bandung Bandawasa made Loro Jonggrang a temple. Until now, the temple is still standing in Prambanan area, Central Java. And the temple is named Loro Jonggrang temple.
